I understand that many won't be real interested in fly fishing for carp. Just in case though, I've got some resources listed bellow.

First off is an article to get you started. Fast but does cover allot. It's at http://www.wyomingflyfishing.com/carponthefly.aspx

"Carp on the Fly: A Flyfishing Guide" by Barry Reynolds. This is an excellent book. Has a ton on info. Recommended. http://www.amazon.com/Carp-Fly-Flyfishing-Barry-Reynolds/dp/1555662072/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1258280911&sr=8-4

"Fly Fish TV: Canadian Cats & Carp" DVD covering the basics and has a section on tying flies. Netflix rents this one. http://www.netflix.com/Movie/Fly_Fish_TV_Canadian_Cats_Carp/70067563?strackid=41bf52fa887e0b3c_0_srl&strkid=1979938307_0_0&trkid=222336][url]http://www.netflix.com/Movie/Fly_Fish_TV_Canadian_Cats_Carp/70067563?strackid=41bf52fa887e0b3c_0_srl&strkid=1979938307_0_0&trkid=222336

"The Fly Rodder's Guide to Carp" DVD is very good about explaining the basic of carp fishing with a fly. Also has a small section of fly tying. Good watch IMHO. Netflix rents it. http://www.netflix.com/Movie/The_Fly_Rodder_s_Guide_to_Carp/70074986?strackid=3750a0dd1da47059_0_srl&strkid=565715384_0_0&trkid=222336

Well, that's it. Not trying to convert anyone but just thought I'd through some info out just in case someone was thinking about it.

Thanks for the carp fly fishing links Paul. I believe there are a few (not necessarily active) members who have at least discussed the subject.

I did a bit of fly fishing in my youth (long, long, long time ago), mostly for shad, stripers, bluegill and planter rainbows but I never tried carp. I have caught a lot of carp up to 20+ pounds using steelhead type fly gear and it's a blast. I have had to remove my palm from the reel for an instant to prevent burning while playing a big carp many times. The only thing I've missed is the carp actually taking an artificial fly. If I were younger and in good health, I would definitely take it up. The biggest problem around here is finding the type of water that is conducive to catching carp on a fly. There is a guy on SCCC (Southern California Carp Club) that is very successful at carp fly fishing but he's in Montana (I think).

Your right about that Ed. I'm going in to it open eyes. It's just something I'm really excited about right now. Being on the water of course changes things but that's just life. In the end I'll be using what ever tackle catches these great fish!  Thumbs Up!
