Although we had a very small turnout, all participants had a good time and caught fish. In attendance were:
Keith (did not fish)
Kristi (did not fish)
Anthony
****
baitbucket
raymac
Steve Gibbons
Sean Gibbons
Jacob Gibbons
Mary
Ed

First of all, I want to thank Keith & Kristi for setting everything up and especially Keith for managing to help out while having to drive back to work and back up to M & M twice! I also wish to thank Hi's Tackle Box for donating the Okuma chair plus the big bags of boilies and boilie dip. Also Scorpion Tackle and ACS for their donations.

Unfortunately, I don't have the big fish weights or top 5 weights for the winners since Anthony ended up with my totals sheet by mistake, however I do remember that Anthony's grand total was a whopping 581 pounds! I'm sure Keith can add them in a reply to this post and then I'll add them here. Here are the winners:

Best Total Weight.. - Anthony
Big Fish................ - ****
Biggest 5 Fish Total - Mick (baitbucket)
Fourth (unofficial)... - raymac (Unofficial only because Ray didn't keep track of his fish but he caught 16 carp during the contest)
Everyone caught fish, I caught 10 carp up to 12 pounds 14 ounces on Saturday but blanked on Sunday. Mary caught 6 carp up to 14 pounds on Saturday and also blanked on Sunday. Steve Gibbons and sons did not fish until after 9:00 am on Sunday morning so they had less than 3 hours to fish. I know Steve caught one fish that weighed about 6 pounds and I believe he caught a second one before the contest ended at noon. Sean caught a couple and Jacob caught one about 5 pounds. After it was over, Steve and Sean caught quite a few nice fish.

Edit 10/8/07 4:00 pm: Here's the whole deal from Keith:

One of the best things about this event was raymac catching all those carp. Until Saturday, he had never caught any carp. He had made several unsuccessful attempts before so this was a banner weekend for him. He continued to fish after the event ended and may very well still be fishing. He said he was now "hooked" on carp angling. rock!

Here's a few photos, hopefully Keith will post a bunch more that he and Kristi took:

Anthony with his Best Total Weight prizes: Okuma chair and bag of boilies donated by Hi's Tackle Box in San Francisco.

**** with his Big Fish prizes: Carp Fishing DVD donated by ACS, Bag of boilies and Bait Dip donated by Hi's Tackle Box.

Mick with his Biggest 5 fish prizes: DVD donated by ACS, Bag of Boilies from Hi's Tackle Box and a Scorpion Tackle T-Shirt from Scorpion Tackle.

Raymac with his unofficial Fourth place prizes: Two goodies bags from Scorpion Tackle and some banana and tutti fruiti maize from K-1 Boilies.

Jacob Gibbons with his first carp of the day.

Ed

Sorry i took the sheet, here are the results, I am sure Keith will do a better more detailed posting too.

Total Weights

1st Anthony 581 lbs
2nd Mick 452 lbs
3rd **** 377 lbs

Top 5 fish weight

1st Mick 85 lbs
2nd **** 84 lbs
3rd Anthony 77 lbs

Biggist single fish (No weights on the sheet for this section)

1st ****
2nd Anthony
3rd Mick

I also wish to thank everyone involved especially Keith without whom this would not have been staged, the chair will come in very handy during future sessions. A big  Thumbs Up! to Clear Lake too, it sure can produce fish clap

As for my win i only fished during the day Friday night i only managed a few fish before hitting the sack at 11pm, then up at 5 or so Sat morning. Saturday was fast and furious all day long with rods left out of the water at times to allow for a break and something to eat, i was back in the sack by 9:30 Sat night. Sunday up late at allmost seven but immediately i was off again with 20 fish caught and weighed by noon. An amazing load of fish I was totally worn out when i got home.

It was really good to see Mick to my Right and **** to my Left also catching a lot of fish not to mention Ray who started his Carp fishing with a net full too.

Thanks again to all who showed to make it a great competition.

Anthony

PS the picture has my 2nd best of the weekend

Fantastic results everyone!!!  Congrats!

Thank you Keith for organizing the NCCC's Clear Lake event, in conjunction with the one down south!  Thanks to all who took the time to fish it as well...sounds like it was definitely worth everyone's time!  The money that you raised will go very nicely with what has been initially donated to the Sensory Garden fund down here.  Needless to say, we also had a lot of fun, won some carping converts, impressed the hell out of the folks at Santee, and raised a good chunk of money for the Garden fund.

Just as a bit of info...included in the fishing rules posted all around Santee includes the following sentence:

All bass and carp are mandatory release.

When have you EVER read that before!!!  Congrats to all the hard work Robert Green (Greeny) put into making Santee Lakes a trophy carp water!  It's working folks, let's keep it up!!!

Thanks to all the guys that attended, seems you endured some colder temps than us softies down here in the South.

Congratulations to Anthony on his great catch, also to **** for making it there after the long drive.

WTG Mick on your Big 5, averages out at 17lb a piece which is pretty good for Clear Lake

Sounds like you guys had a blast up there with plenty of fish all round.

Thanks to Keith for organizing this at pretty short notice, and getting the sponsorship that he did. clap clap clap

Next year will be wayyyyyyy bigger, we are planning it already!!

Where do i start ? I'll first say, i've never fished with a nicer group of people in my 71years .The Brit's sure know how to fish for carp and enjoy it.  British Flag I've never had such an enjoyable and exhausting time fishing. My mission was just to help a cause (when Ed said isn't any one interested in supporting this outing it set the ball rolling) and gain a better knowledge of carp fishing. And i have. I didn't keep a record of the weights of the fish i brought to the net and they weren't as many as the the people in the know.Got to net a lot of Brits fish.   clap Every fish i hooked gave me a thrill and i am real pleased with my effort.14 on Saturday and 6 on sunday. I was the last of the group to leave on sunday(retired and no where to go)Desided to fish till the sun went down and it was a good move.I hooked a 30+ inch carp. (i will never go carp fishing with out a weigh measuring device again.)on 2 pieces of pop up yellow corn.I did get a picture.I wan't to thank Ed and Mary,Keith,Mick,Brit, Anthony and Kristi for shareing their time and knowledge with me.I came with a starter kit and now i have a better idea on how to emprove my chances of hooking fish. The sound of a bite indicator is sure a good wake up call.

thanks for sticking the pics up Ed, i had a good time at the event, thanks for everyone who came being such good company and to the people who sponsored with the prizes, it was really rewarding to be able to help ray and see a result. on sunday morn i actually had two takes on the drop, on a method ball (stiffmix that wernt breaking on the way down and the hook buried in it) lost the first one after a few seconds the second one was amazing, put the rod on the pod, take up some slack with the reel, pick up indicator and just as i attached it to the line it slammed the butt (i hadnt put the baitrunner on at this point, that would have been next) the rod shot off the pod pulling the the buzzer around and jerking it violently enough to somewhat dislodge the other rods i caught the rod where the reel seat is in mid air about 2ft in front of the pod wow! and the result! a whopping 8.2lb carp!
sounds like they had a good time down south too and the mandatory release off bass and carp ruling is great news to say the least  clap clap
looking forward to getting back to some real carping now, lots of hours for 1 or 2 bites roflmao roflmao

Well -- fuel pump is out on the van, and have to pull the tank out to replace it -- SO, sounds like a good time to write a few words about the weekend  Roll Eyes
Thursday.   I was sort of going to break up my drive from Utah, and stop somewhere and get a motel -- however, they forecast snow over Donner summit, so I pressed on. Saw a few flakes as I dropped down through Auburn around 8pm. (They closed the road later !! -- just made it !!)
By the time I got out of the Sacramento "zoo" traffic, I just kept driving.  Once on 20, I figured I'd got it cracked. A deer ran out in front of me -- then changed its mind and doubled back. It hit the back of the van, but bounced off and we were both unharmed.  Had another one a few miles on that looked like it was on the starting blocks of a race, however -- it thankfully stayed put !!  Grin
I totally missed the M & M turning, and ended up calling Mary & Ed, who got me turned around and to the lake -- thanks folks !!  Thumbs Up!
By the time I got there, around midnight, it was blowing a gale and was colder than a well diggers butt.  I tossed a few beers down, and decided I'd better try and get the new bivvy up.  I should have called Americas funniest home videos, as it was terribly funny trying to get the thing up in the dark, with a gale blowing -- for the first time -- with NO instructions !!  oops!
Finally got a "camp" together about 3am -- (Hic -- after a good few bevvies) and decided I'd at least get one rod out. Just as I was falling asleep, I got a cat around 5lbs, and decided to call it quits until daylight. Despite the wind and cold, I slept until first light.
Spent Friday practising my tactics. Target the bigger fish !!  (Yeah sure !!)  I got a 19, and a 17.8 -- and plenty of small ones. Tried a few different baits, however -- couldn't keep the big ones coming  Sad

After the "kick off", the night was pretty slow. Early Sat saw a whole slew of cats lurking around, and it was a while before the carp moved in.
I fished most of the day with only one rod, as it was too crazy getting doubles -- without anyone else to grab the second rod.
When Ray showed up, I went back to 2, and he helped land a good few fish for me -- thanks for the help !!
Got my 21.12 around 6.30pm, as one of another double -- the other being a 14.2. Got the big one on a pineapple boilie, popped up with a bit of polystyrene, and the other on a strawberry koolade flavoured tiger nut, popped up with a plastic peanut.

Spent the rest of the night giving Ray a "teach in", and getting a few more fish.
After Keith got back from work, I got into what I thought was the biggest carp in Clear lake. It was like trying to drag a concrete mixer out  Shocked
Almost 1/2 hr later, Keith netted a 25ish cat for me -- foulhooked in its pectoral fin !!  roflmao
I turned in around 2am, and had another 20+ cat during the night, before putting the rods up and trying to get some kip.
There was a buzzer going off pretty continuously -- so, I got up to find out what was going on. It was one of Micks rods, that had clearly got a little cat latched on it. The indicator would go up to the rod, and it would take about a foot of line-- then, it would drop all the way to the ground. This went on for about 1hr -- whilst Mick & Wes snored merrily away.
I put some ear plugs in, and got some Zees myself !!  Wink
Sunday, it was very quiet for me, whilst Anthony kept on hauling !!  Way to go young man !!  clap
I only put about 6 - 8 pounds of bait in during the whole session, as --- I think getting too much out there just attracts too many smaller fish.
I've always got the bigger ones from outside the baited area.  I honestly think there are so many "smallies", that they muscle the big ones off the bait.
Both Mick & Anthony slammed out a fair bit of stuff -- and fished 2 rods all the time, which is why they landed more fish than me.
Look at the weight average, and you see I did 10.47, Mick 9.84 and Anthony 9.53. It also proves there weren't that many big fish around, -- in fact, there doesn't appear to be many really big fish around where we were fishing !!
Anyway tremendous kudos to everyone that attended, and organised a great weekend.  rock!
I had to go to the Chiropractor today, as I couldn't walk very well this morning, and he figures I beat myself up pretty good !!  I still had a silly grin on my face as he was telling me that, as I was thinking about the way Ray was like a kid catching his first fish ever, as he played his first carp -- and kept flashing back to that strange fellow with the fly rod bent double, that kept appearing out of the bushes -- as the carp basically played him !!  Roll Eyes
A lot of fun folks !!  Let's do it again soon !!  Fisherman
 Cheers,
****.

Way to go NCCC!!! It sounds like you all had a fantastic time. Keith posted on the SCCC website, the letter from Ray, about what a great experience he had fishing with all of you for the first time. Makes it all worth it. My hat's off to all of you.
Welcome Ray, glad to have you aboard.
